Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not planning to birth at Baystate Franklin, can I still attend OBC classes?

Yes!  OBC classes are held at Franklin but they are run independently of the hospital.  Whether you are delivering at another hospital, a birth center or at home, you are welcome in any of our classes.

This is not my first baby, can I still benefit from OBC classes?

Definitely.  One of the reasons we started teaching OBC classes is that we wish we had been able to take these classes when we were expecting or parents of young babies, whether our first, second or third babies.  OBC classes are not your average baby prep or parenting class - they are an amazing mix of information, knowledge, support and community!

Are classes available to single parents?

OBC of the Pioneer Valley is proud to help families of all shapes and sizes; no matter what your family looks like or how you made it, come as you are and find a supportive and inclusive community.

Are partners welcome in the classes?

Yes partners or any other support person (grandparents!) are welcome to attend class.  The class fee includes one workbook per pair of students.

I’m interested in the Core Class series, but I will miss one (or more) of the dates.  Can I make up a class?

We offer the Core Class series on a regular basis.  If you miss a class in the series you have signed up for, please take that class in the next series.  We want everyone who is interested in classes to be able to attend them.

Are babies welcome in class?

YES - We love babies!  OBC classes are most definitely baby friendly spaces.  We do our best to provide a class environment that is comfortable for parents and babies.  Class is structured for you to attend to your baby in whatever way you need, whenever you need to.

There is ONE EXCEPTION: when taking the Non-Coercive Potty Training Series we ask that your toddlers stay with another loving adult.  We have much in depth materials to discuss (about them!) and we have found it best if they have something more fun to do!

Do I need to bring anything to class with me?

All you need to bring to class is a pen or pencil.  Each class comes with a workbook that has activities and spaces for notes.  We provide light snacks, but please feel free to bring any food or drink that you would like. Our class spaces generally include chairs, yoga mats and blankets - sometimes even a yoga ball or two!  If you would like to bring anything else with you - your own yoga ball, a back jack, floor pillow etc., please do.

Do you offer classes in other places than Greenfield ?

Yes!  We will run a private class anywhere within an hour of Greenfield.  We may be expanding our regular classes to other towns in the near future as well.  If you are interested in taking a class in a particular town, or if you would like more information on a private or small group class, please contact us!

Do you offer discounts on class fees?

In an effort to keep our classes affordable and accessible we offer almost all of our classes on a sliding scale basis. If you are interested in a work-trade arrangement for a class, please contact us.
